Shell Celebrates 70 Years in Corunna with “Fueling Kindness” Campaign

August 31, 2022/By: Bluewater Association for Safety, Environment, and Sustainability

Shell is a household name in Sarnia-Lambton, located on the St. Clair River neighbouring the Corunna and Aamjiwnaang communities, and has a long history of community involvement in the area.

To commemorate their 70th Anniversary, the Corunna refinery has launched an impressive “fueling kindness” campaign to organize a minimum of 70 events to spread kindness and give back to the local community that has supported them over the years. Initiatives have included sponsoring free swims at the Mooretown Sports Complex and Sarnia’s Tecumseh Pool, delivering snacks to local organizations and volunteer groups, participating in area food drives, and hosting a free fuel giveaway at a local Shell gas station, just to name a few. As part of their Goal Zero initiative, Shell pledged to donate $1,000 to Access Open Minds for each day with no lost-time incidents during their spring turnaround and anticipates a donation of $115,000 to the mental health facility scheduled to open later this fall.

The public is invited to attend Shell’s 70th Anniversary Community Open House at the refinery located at 150 St. Clair Parkway in Corunna from 11am-3pm on Saturday, September 17. This free event is open to all and will include something for everyone, with activities for the entire family, informational displays, food, swag, door prizes, site tours and much more.
